LCOY: creating a space where youth climate voices can organize

Climate leadership becomes stronger when young people are given a real room, a real audience, and a real sense that their perspective matters

In September 2024, PakSarZameen worked with The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and YOUNGO-UNFCCC to host LCOY Pakistan-Wasaib+ in Bahawalpur

Story arc

What made LCOY meaningful

01

Bring climate dialogue closer to home

Youth participation grows when major climate conversations are not reserved for distant venues alone

02

Combine inspiration with structure

Panels, workshops, exhibitions, and discussions helped participants move from concern to clearer thinking about leadership, capacity, and policy

03

Link local experience to larger systems

One of the most important outcomes of LCOY is its bridge function

Outcomes

Why this gathering mattered

  • Young people had a stronger platform to express climate priorities rooted in local realities
  • Partnerships between civil society, educational institutions, and youth networks became more visible and practical
  • The event contributed to a broader sense that local climate dialogue in South Punjab belongs in national and global conversations

Why it matters

Youth leadership grows when someone makes space for it to gather.
